Reliance Jio has launched new, ‘JioPages’, its Made-in-India mobile browser that is available in eight Indian languages and promises an enhanced browsing experience while focusing on data privacy. The new version of the browser made its debut on Google Playstore on Tuesday.
JioPages is built on the powerful Chromium Blink engine. “It provides enhanced browsing experience through faster engine migration, webpage rendering, faster page loads, efficient media streaming, Emoji domain support, an encrypted connection,” Jio said in a statement. The new browser, JioPages is made-in-India and will support 8 Indian languages, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Bengali. JioPages browser aims to focus on data-privacy along with performance and provide users full control of their information.
Also, A Jio spokesperson confirmed the launch but did not offer details. Sources, meanwhile, said the previous version had seen over 14 million downloads and all those users would be upgraded to the latest version in a phased manner.
JioPages appears to be a revamped version of JioBrowser. JioBrowser has been available since December 2018 and has over 10 million downloads. Although rebranded as JioPages, the splash screen on the app still says JioBrowser and has most of the same features.
Jio claims that JioPages is much more than a conventional browser as it packs quite a few features such as choice of personalised theme (including an option to switch to ādark modeā for an eye-friendly viewing experience at night), and personalised content, with content-feed, customised to suit the userās preference in terms of language, topic and region. An `Informative Cardā captures key numbers, trends, symbols or headlines of a given topic, say, stock market trends, commodity prices or cricket score, and displays them as compact clickable banners on the screen, the source pointed out

1. Personalised Home Screen: With the personalized home screen, Users have the option of setting any of the leading search engines in the market such as Google, Bing, MSN, Yahoo or Duck Duck Go, as their default search engine. They could also pin the links of their favourite websites on the home screen for quick and easy access.
2. Personalized theme: Users could choose from a variety of colourful background themes to enhance browsing experience. JioPages also has an eye-friendly Dark-mode, which might help you save some juice on devices with AMOLED screens.
3. Personalised Content: JioPages will offer a personalized content feed as per the userās preference, The content feed is customised to suit the userās preference in terms of language, topic and region. JioPages sends notifications only on topics that are either important or of interest to the user.
4. Informative Cards: The Informative Card on JioPages will captureĀ captures key numbers, trends, symbols or headlines of a given topic, for e.g. stock market trends, commodity prices or cricket score, and displays them as compact clickable banners on the screen.
5. Regional Content: JioPages browser will come with support for eight Indian languages: Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali. Users will also have the option of customizing the content feed as per their region. Upon selecting a state, the popular sites of the state start appearing on the screen
6. Advanced Download Manager: JioPages automatically categorises downloads according to the file type, i.e. Image, Video, Document or Pages. This makes file management easier for the user.
7. Secured Incognito Mode: The Incognito mode on JioPages will enable private browsing by preventing browsing history from being stored in the system. Additionally, On JioPages, the user has the option of setting a four-digit security PIN or fingerprint as an access code to the Incognito mode.
8. Ad Blocker: To provide the users with a seamless browsing experience, The browser blocks unsolicited ads and popups to provide the user seamless browsing experience.
