Spotify vs YouTube Music: Introduction
Spotify: Spotify is a digital music, podcast, and video streaming service that gives you access to millions of songs and other content from artists all over the world. Basic functions such as playing music are totally free, but you can also choose to upgrade to Spotify Premium.
Youtube Music: YouTube Music is a new music app that allows you to easily find the songs and videos you’re looking for and to discover new music. Get playlists and recommendations served to you based on your context, tastes, and what’s trending around you.
Spotify vs YouTube Music: User Interface
◼️ User Interface is no doubt a major part of any smartphone application. Spotify is having an amazing premium user interface that provides a premium feel to its users.
◼️ Same as Spotify, Youtube Music also having a premium user interface with an amazing design.
Spotify vs YouTube Music: Library and Selection
◼️ Spotify has over 50 million songs in its catalog. While YouTube Music doesn’t give out a hard number for the songs in its catalog, it doesn’t matter since that would only count the official songs YouTube Music hosts through its deals with record labels.
◼️ YouTube Music has official songs and albums from the record labels but it also offers official music videos, live concert videos — both official and fan-uploaded, fan covers, remixes, and mashups. There’s also millions upon millions of songs that aren’t in YouTube Music’s official library, nor any official streaming library in many cases.
Spotify vs YouTube Music: Free Plans
◼️ Both Spotify and YouTube Music have a free plan available, but the limits set in place by each provider are very different. Spotify only allows you to choose the songs you want to play on specific playlists like the personalized Daily Mix. On others, you can only play tracks in shuffle mode, which is annoying. You can skip the songs you don’t like, but only six times per hour.
◼️ The free YouTube Music plan, on the other hand, allows you to pick and play any track you like, making it much more useful than Spotify in this regard. You can even skip tracks as many times as you want. The free version of YouTube Music is also supported by ads and doesn’t allow you to download music to your phone.
Spotify vs YouTube Music: Paid Plans
We’ve already talked about the free plans and their limitations, so now let’s take a closer look at the premium plans the two services offer.
◼️ Spotify’s individual monthly subscription will set you back ₹119 per month, while a two-user plan will cost ₹149 per month. The price is lowered to ₹59 per month if you’re a student. You can also get a family plan that supports up to six accounts for ₹179 per month.
◼️ YouTube Music is offering two prepaid plans for the YouTube Music Premium. While a one-month pre-paid subscription costs ₹109, three-month subscription costs ₹309. Similarly, the monthly subscription plan for YouTube Premium costs ₹99. While the students’ plan costs ₹59 per month, the family plan costs ₹149 per month.
Spotify vs YouTube Music: Contest of Content
◼️ There is no limit to the content available on both of these platforms. Most of everyone’s favorite tunes are available on both Spotify and YouTube. However, both platforms differ on the ground that there’s access to various podcasts on Spotify whereas YouTube music revolves around music recordings and videos.
◼️ Spotify users no longer need to download special apps for podcasts. But even though YouTube does not have podcasts, you can find different versions of each song on YouTube, such as remixes, mashups, and other popular edits, which may not be available on Spotify. YouTube Music Premium plan also enables one to explore more in fields of fashion, gaming, food, or travel; proving its much wider scope.
Spotify vs YouTube Music: Music Discovery
◼️ Spotify is much better for music discovery. It has the popular Discover Weekly playlist containing songs from artists and genres you’re listening to. A new one is released every Monday with 30 tracks. Additionally, the service also creates up to six daily mixes for you based on your listening habits.
◼️ YouTube Music offers three types of personalized playlists. There’s the Discover Mix that gives you 50 lesser-known tracks every week, the New Release Mix that contains the most recent releases by your favorite artists, and a set of mixes based on your listening habits.
Spotify vs YouTube Music: Other Helpful Features
◼️ There are a number of other small differences between the two services as well. For example, Spotify has better social features than its competitor. In addition to sharing songs on social media, you can check out exactly what your friends are listening to. It’s a great way to discover new music. Spotify also has a bunch of other extra features you won’t find on its competitor. There’s a sleep timer available that will stop playing music after a specified amount of time. Spotify also works with Google Maps. This means you can play, pause, or skip tracks without leaving the app while having navigation turned on. There’s even a Windows app available, which you don’t get with YouTube Music.
◼️ YouTube Music also lets you share tracks on social media and allows you to see how many subscribers each artist has. But you can’t see what your friends are listening to or how popular a certain playlist is.
Spotify vs YouTube Music: Pros & Cons
◼️ Pros of Spotify
1. Amazing podcast library
2. Higher-quality audio option
◼️ Cons of Spotify
1. Fewer benefits than YouTube Premium
2. Daily mixes don’t auto-download
◼️ Pros Of Youtube Music
1. Auto-updated and downloaded offline mixtape
2. It is now having daily mixes
3. YouTube Premium subscription gets multiple services

Spotify vs YouTube Music: Verdict
According to my comparison, you can see that somewhere Spotify is better while in some cases, Youtube Music is better to use. Overall, Spotify is the superior service. It’s better for discovering new music, has more playlists, offers stronger social features, and gives you access to loads of podcasts. The app is also packed with useful features including crossfade. However, that doesn’t mean it’s a better option for everyone. YouTube Music, on the other hand, has access to almost every language with its video streaming platform backing it. YouTube Music has the natural advantage over Spotify in terms of languages and regional content. Though, in comparison, Spotify has the most number of international artists on its platform when it comes to global music.
Finally, in terms of pricing, Spotify is quite cheaper in India at Rs 1,189 per year. Spotify also has a 50 percent student discount available on the monthly subscription package. If you don’t want to spend money and are satisfied with a free plan, YouTube Music is the better choice. Still, There’s no winner when it comes to the free plan, so you’ll have to base your decision on the limitations you can more easily live with. Keep in mind that both services offer a free trial for their premium service. YouTube Music can be used for a month for free, while Spotify lets you use all of its features for three months without spending anything
So if you’re still confused regarding which one to go with, test them out both first to see which one you like better.
