Back in May, Google had revealed that users will no longer have access to Google Play Music by the end of 2020, as the music subscription service will be fully included into YouTube Music.
The Google Play Music is to be deleted and shut down in December 2020, for forever, and along with goes your downloaded music. The latest blog post from Google states that the residents of New Zealand or South Africa, you won’t be able to stream your favourite music since September, while others in the world are to be hit in October.
Shutting down this long-running app, Google plans to shift ops to YouTube Music, where you can transfer all of your music and your playlists from Google Play Music. As such, the process to transfer is there in your mailbox, but to make the process easier for you, all you have to do is download the Youtube Music app and hit the Transfer button in there.
All users will be notified ahead of their Google Play Music subscriptions being cancelled.
Users will have a minimum of 30 days after losing access to Google Play Music to transfer their music libraries to YouTube Music.
Starting August 2020, access to the Music Store on Google Play, and uploads to Google Play Music through Music Manager will start to go away.
By December 2020, access to Google Play Music for all users will be gone. However, Google will be holding onto things like your playlists, uploads, purchases, likes and more until December 2020 to make your transfer to YouTube Music easier.
Users who wish to transfer their music libraries from Google Play Music to YouTube Music can do so through December 2020, after which their Google Play Music libraries will no longer be available.
Here are the steps for making the transfer
Step 1. Download the YouTube Music app (iOS/Android).
Step 2. Click on your profile picture in the top right-hand corner.
Step 3. Click on Settings.
Step 4. Select Transfer from Google Play Music.
Step 5. And bingo! Your updated recommendations will appear immediately on the YouTube Music home screen, and Google will let you know when your music library transfer is complete, and you can stream again!
